The area that now is known as "La Limonada" was
invaded on August 15th of 1958, because of the lack of residence
spaces, the migration caused by the armed conflict inside
the country and the poverty. While the years went by, the
State gave those lands to the occupants who have also keep
dividing the space in 10x15 feet squares, in which generally
lives a whole family.
La Limonada is one of the extreme poor areas inside Guatemala
City, located inside a narrow valley which has its own culture
or sub-culture. It is composed for more 8 colonies and it
is located between the zone 1 and zone 5 of Guatemala City.
It is considered that there are 60,000 inhabitants, in an
average of 6 people for house.
At
the moment the access can be carried out on foot or in vehicle,
and the basic services are beginning to regularize.

Some
of the houses already have electricity and drainages
of water. Others have built cement floors and walls
of concrete.
Many of the people from the neighborhood know and
they recognize "The School" and the staff,
even if they don't have family inside the program.
This place has become of hope, refuge and integral
provision for the neighbors; a true spiritual, moral
and physical oasis.
